A Safer Client Handoff Workflow for WordPress Agencies

What a good handoff looks like

A client handoff should leave the customer confident and the agency unexposed. That means the client gets the access they need, the agency keeps control over sensitive credentials, and both sides know exactly who is responsible for updates, support, and billing.

Use temporary access first

Instead of sending a permanent password, create a temporary login link for the exact user account that needs access. Once the handoff meeting is complete, the link is gone and the access path disappears with it.

Include a short checklist

  • Confirm the administrator account owner
  • Document plugin licensing and renewal dates
  • List the backup and restore process
  • Explain where support requests should go
  • Remove staging-only access after launch
The safest handoff is the one that never requires sharing a reusable password at all.
